Dr Spiers is a professional hybrid: he is an attorney who is also an accomplished surgeon with extensive experience in cardiac, thoracic, vascular, and endovascular surgery as well as in general, trauma, and transplant surgery. His legal practice focuses on the many varied matters faced by individual practitioners, medical groups, and medical venturers, as well as specific patient focused matters. His clients find his ability to personally relate to their professional experiences and special needs an invaluable resource. It is this ability to segue between the customs, language, and practice of medicine to those of law that distinguish his services.

A native of Georgia, Dr Spiers graduated Duke University, and attended Medical School at the University of Tennessee. After a General Surgery Residency, in which he spent a year in Basic Science Research, Dr Spiers completed a residency in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr Spiers is Board-Certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery, and maintains an active medical license despite an injury which ended his operating career. Indeed, this injury led to his interest in the law, as he felt this was the best avenue for him to contribute to the improvement of health care. Dr Spiers realized his interests would best be applied in the field of Health Law, so he elected to attend the University of Houston Law Center.

Having practiced cardiac surgery for many years, Dr Spiers has extensive practical experience allowing him to help practitioners resolve complex issues. He also uses this experience to aid his clients as they undertake new ventures, whether it be joining a new practice, adding practitioners to an existing practice, or some other venture, such as Ambulatory Surgery Centers, Imaging Centers, Dialysis Centers, and more. This requires the interaction of general business law with the complexities of the myriad state and federal regulations affecting medicine.

Dr Spiers also works with clients in bringing his long clinical experience to bear to separate the frivolous from the meritorious. Dr Spiers has found that this combination can help streamline litigation to the benefit of all parties.
